We're gonna miss Merdeka :(

Sorry to disappoint guys, but we're going to have to delay... again. We've found some major bugs that need to be squashed before the site can be updated.

Suffice to say, we need to get new calendars that shout at us. So, we will be camping in the office with our Malaysian flags to wave by the 51st birthday of our nation, as we rush to get the site to you as soon (and as best) as we can.

Our new launch date is on 2nd September 12pm noon (GMT+0800).

I know how eager some of you are to see the results, but if you could just wait a few more days, the anticipation will make the result that much sweeter.

Once again, our humblest apologies.

Ratings period over for "We Are All Geeks"

Pop the champagne!

After months of preparation, monitoring, promotions and a general state of panic, the first Foldees contest is now drawing to a close.

Here are a few choice numbers from our contest.

24,782 ratings

1992 comments (or 27 comments per card!)

43,504 page views

To be honest, we didn't even expect these sorts of numbers! For that, we have to thank you guys for being such great sports, and such a happy, (mostly) lovey dovey community of participative people.

We'd like to thank all those people who have featured us on their sites, blogs, newsreels, Facebook status updates and everything else!

Also, I've been told that we're also out on SURF Magazine August 2008, so do pick up a copy and find out a bit more about the Foldees team and our journey to this point.

.................

Now we need to get our heads down and make sense of all these numbers. We do have a significant number of fraudulent votes (you know who you are), which we will be pruning out of the contest to ensure that the ratings system is fair to the winners.

Results (god-willing), will be announced on the 31st of August 2008 at midnight (GMT +0800).

Random Curious Things

As promised, here's a happy post to make up for the previous one.

I've actually been wanting to upload these pictures for a while now, but I've just been very busy sorting out the details of our upcoming shopping cart features.

Random Item #1: The Official Foldees Shoe! Yay!

Here's the first item today, the Official Foldees Shoes! I spotted these in SoleWhat in the Gardens, and even though they were the most expensive shoes I've ever bought, I decided that they needed to be officiated by Foldees.

Doesn't look like anything special? Have a closer look.

that's right! The patterns are actually drawn on by what looks like a really blotchy ink pen. How cool is that!? Anyways, I thought it really suited our theme, so i decided that if we ever go for IPO someday, I will wear these shoes together with my expensive suit.

Unless of course they come up with another version that has a yellow swoosh.

Random Item #2: Very Cool Middle-Aged Man

Pretty much self-explanatory.

When asked, above man said that the laptop belongs to his wife. Oh well, kinda lowers the cool factor, but still... not something you see everyday.

What he should have said was "I like Hello Kitty. Got a problem with that, punk?".

Random Item #3: Toilet for Janitors

DSC01288

Spotted at Kota Kinabalu Internationa Airport. Poor guys really do have to clean up after themselves.

Random Item #4: Our new shopping cart!

Thought we'd throw this in as well. We just came up with this yesterday and we're smiling silly at how COOL it looks, which is usually a good sign. It's meant to look like a receipt that you get at a supermarket.

It's not the final shot yet, but do you guys like it? Lemme know your comments!

Removal of two designs for plagiarism complaints

It's with a heavy heart, and a hesitant finger that we disqualified two designs from our site today. The reason for the disqualification was because of several concerned parties that the two designs in question were too similar to other designs found on the internet.

This is especially painful for us, since one of the designs was a personal favourite of mine. However, in light of the similarities to previously published works from other people, we had no choice but to remove both designs.

As some of you might know, we've questioned quite a few of you with regards to the originality of your designs. This is a serious concern to us.

While some of you might have borrowed inspiration from other places and still drawn the design yourself, at the end of the day, what we're looking for are original ideas.

If you feel that you would like to discuss this further, I've prepared a thread on our forum about this topic here.

Good luck to the rest of you for the contest!

PS: Since I'm piling on the bad news, I might as well also re-issue our earlier warning with regards to fraudulent votes. We'vev received a high-number of these in the past few days, and even if YOU voted for your OWN design with only 1s and 5s, we will still disqualify your vote in the spirit of the contest.

PPS: I promise a happier post tomorrow :)

We are really all geeks!

Recently, when i was stuck in an airport with nothing to do, I browsed through a magazine rack and bought something I haven't bought for a very, very long time.

A Double Digest.

doubledigest cover

I used to read tons and tons of Archie when I was a kid, and it's really interesting how Archie n friends have grown up with us. This particular issue that I bought had something that really struck a chord with our recent greeting card contest. I've scanned it for your enjoyment.

 Riverdale Are All Geeks

As you can see, Archie isn't exactly funny (although come to think of it, he never really was as far as I can remember). But this particular strip was really funny, not only because it reminded me of the contest, but because I have a friend called Darcy, who bears a strong resemblance to this guy in the strip. He (the real darcy) used to be the editor of CHIP magazine, a hardcore IT publication that prided itself in providing useful technical tips to the masses.

Darcy, this one's for you. Looks like you're not alone.
